TRADITIONAL: For generations, cocoa and superfoods have been grown in forest gardens, foraged in the wild or cultivated using near-natural methods by independent smallholders, family farms and indigenous communities.

This gives rise to diverse farming systems that promote biodiversity, protect the soil and preserve a traditional harmony between people and nature.

SOCIAL: Direct trade fosters personal relationships, fair prices and genuine transparency. Without unnecessary middlemen, more value is retained where the cocoa and superfoods are grown – with the people who cultivate, harvest and process them.

CLOSE TO NATURE: Our cocoa from Mexico and Peru grows in species-rich forest gardens without synthetic pesticides or artificial fertilisers. La Chontalpa

Don Maclovio and his son Nestor are passionate cocoa farmers. In the Cárdenas region of Tabasco – known as La Chontalpa – they are pioneers of a particularly nature-integrated approach to cocoa farming.

They work with compost, local microorganisms, beneficial organisms, traditional cocoa varieties and a wide range of plant species. Today, Nestor carries on his father’s legacy – with in-depth knowledge, respect for the land and a smart approach to working with nature.

Don Margarito Mendoza

The man behind our Selva Zoque and Blanco Jaguar single-bean cacaos: a cacaotero (cocoa farmer) who is a true role model. He cultivates rare and very high-quality varieties directly within the intact rainforest, allowing the trees to grow naturally in the shade of taller trees. He has also been fighting for decades against takeovers by large corporations and champions traditional farming methods. We stand with him!
